I'm a Deaf painter from the Texas Hill Country, working in Los Angeles.

I picked up a camera at thirteen, and it taught me to find beauty on my own terms: in juxtaposition, in the smallest details, in the way light falls on a face. My favorite photographs were never the posed ones. They were the accidental, in-between moments, when people forgot to perform and something true came through. That's still what I'm after.

Photography brought me to Los Angeles, where I spent more than a decade behind the camera and in magazine design, editing and production, working with thousands of people. On paper I was living the dream, but the artist in me was never satisfied. In 2020 I went back to Texas and back to my roots, and started painting.

Before long the paintings grew to the size of walls. A mural I painted for a family member near the end of his life showed me what art can do at that scale, and murals have been part of my work ever since.

Before this series I painted landscapes and figurative work, all of which have sold to private collections. My current series returns to the West I grew up in: the energy, the spirit, the details I remember, the feeling of going home. The scenes and the iconography are familiar. What I'm trying to give you is a new way of seeing them, one that's entirely my own.

I have a child's drawing tattooed on my arm to remind me never to lose my curiosity. Somewhere between childhood and adulthood most of us trade it for fixed ideas and the need to fit in. Getting it back is what let me finally paint unrestrained. I believe everyone is an artist underneath all of that, and I hope my work helps a few people find their way back to it.

When you stand in front of one of my paintings, I want you to leave feeling revitalized, curious, and a little closer to your native state.

My art is not just a reflection of the world around me; it is a reflection of the world within me. It is how I speak, how I connect, how I heal.
